Managers Notes – Thu 5th September

Since my last notes we have played two further games. We experienced our first defeat away at Wickham Market and held league leaders Stowupland Falcons to a creditable draw.

In all honesty we weren’t at our best away at Wickham. We had a few regulars missing but no excuses we just never passed the ball as well as we had done in the previous 2 matches. We took the lead through Tyler Howell but we gave the ball away too many times and Wickham punished us when we did. We scored late on through Ben Rowland but Wickham were just better on the day.

I can’t say I know too much about the game at home against Stowupland as I was away in France. I can’t remember the last time I missed a game, it was a nervous Saturday afternoon waiting for texts to come through with goals and information. Neil Hitter and Tom Fisher led the team and did a great job in my absence so many thanks to them.

From what I can peice together we took the lead from a Falcons error with captain Jimmy Hitter scoring. We then could have had a penalty but only the ref thought it wasn’t which was a frustrating text to receive! Add to that a couple of shots against the woodwork it sounds like we were unfortunate to go in only 1 goal to the good.

We then scored a cracker of an OG shortly after half time that gave Falcons the momentum for the remainder of the half. I gather they had a lot of the possession but we defended really well with few chances created between the two sides.. So a point each and still unbeaten at home which I hope we can keep going for as long as possible.

We are under no illusions that it’s going to be tough this year but our aim is to keep collecting points as and when they come even if that means taking a point when you want 3!

We have another tough local derby this weekend to look forward to when we welcome Haughley Utd to Brickwall Meadow. We’ve played each other over the years in pre-season games and the League cup but never in the league. Hopefully we get a few supporters from both villages come to cheer on their respective teams. If so it’s a 2.30pm at Brickwall!

Lastly an update on the Reserves and A Team, unfortunately both were unable to record wins in their first league games, at home to Elmswell and Away at Benhall respectively but 2 games this weekend for them to bounce back!

Best wishes
Ryan
